Tiwi Islands Training & Employment Board

The Tiwi Islands Training and Employment Board (TITEB) was established by the Tiwi Land Council in 1999 to coordinate training and employment activities on the Tiwi Islands. TITEB is owned and managed by a Tiwi board of directors, who are committed to good governance and continuous improvement.

TITEB continues to support employers who are eager to offer apprenticeships to Tiwi people, to overcome challenges facing Tiwi people who want to gain trade qualifications. Some of the challenges include literacy and numeracy, humbug and jealousy issues, and regular travel to Darwin to attend training.

TITEB regularly visit apprentices and trainers in the workplace to monitor progress and provide support as necessary. Literacy and numeracy support is also available at the TITEB Training Centre.

Unfortunately, trade school training cannot be delivered in community. However, CDU is very flexible with training dates, and TITEB will help with travel and accommodation arrangements and subsidies. We also ensure apprentices receive all eligible incentives, such as $300 or $1000 workwear and workgear bonus.

People with years of on-the-job experience can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and fast-track their apprenticeship. Once qualified, the future looks bright for our Tiwi tradies.

TITEB has a Community Development Program that aims to be the 'go to' employment service for local employers as they are committed to understanding the requirements of individual business owners, and ensuring that job seekers are trained according to the needs of the labour market.
